Elections were held on 1st May for both the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the eleven seats on the Parish Council. Seven existing members of the Parish Council stood for election and were returned unopposed. At their first meeting on 12th May 2003, Cllr Mann was elected Chairman, and Cllr Scott elected as Vice Chairman, with immediate effect. A vote of thanks was given to Cllr Chapman, the former Chairman for his service and hard work over the past few years. At this time, two other residents have been co-opted onto the Council, Cllr Gertrud Manley and Cllr Frank Harrison, both of whom look forward to serving their community in this special way.

Press Release South Cave Parish Council With the changing seasons, and the preference for locally produced goods, one of the natural changes at Farmers' Markets is the variety that is provided for customers and visitors. Products are not brought half way round the world to satisfy the supermarket 'year round' demands, but are produced fresh, a few short miles from where they are sold. 'With the increasing confidence of their ability to sell to the local residents', commented Kathryn Richmond, Clerk to South Cave Parish Council, 'farmers are re-appraising the growing of different types of crops throughout the seasons, very much as they did many years ago. So, we are looking forward to re-introduced varieties, over the next few years'. In the meanwhile, other local and home producers are introducing their goods to the Market. For example, at the next Farmers' Market in South Cave, on Saturday 8th March, with spring just around the corner, the local garden providers will come into their own. A wide variety of plants, shrubs, and small trees will be available. In addition, garden furniture, wrought iron work, plant troughs and pots will all make the planning of the new garden season a pleasure. New attendees with stalls offering specialist mushrooms, birdseed, Yorkshire Punch, Brandysnaps and woodturning, together with the other local producers with vegetables, beef, pork and poultry will all make the South Cave Farmers' Market a 'must' visit. The success of the Market so far can be judged by the number of times the stallholders sell out, despite increasing the amount brought to market each month. Latecomers can leave disappointed. 'We are encouraging the stallholders not to leave their stalls until at least 12:30pm' said Cllr Tony Mann at the last market, 'as it gives a wrong impression to later visitors to the Market. By bringing more products with them, it will be a benefit to both parties - the customer and the stallholder.

| There was a visit to South Cave Primary School by a wandering minstrel. He brought in many old instruments, which he demonstrated to the children. He also let them have a go; especially on the drums! | |
